Since the opening of the Fela Kuti exhibit, I've had this healthy obsession with documenting artists whose crafts I strongly believe in.Very often artists do not get their very full appreciation until either their career or their life is over. Yet they leave a legacy behind for people to remember them as larger than life individuals through their artistry. People like Fela and Bob Marley are good examples of that.

Right now, more than anything, I'm concerned with making history and capturing images that will be remembered forever. Artists like these, I believe will go down in the history books. And when they do, my dream is to have one of my pictures next to their names.

Khalima and all the other Ansaris are like my family. And I very much kept it within the family when it came to making my "Fela" assignment the best it could possibly be. Her sister Anisah, designed the wardrobe for each of the queens, her other sister Inayah, made the jewelry, and last but not least Khalima was responsible for the make-up.

Khalima, who also models, desired her very own spotlight as one of Fela's queens but she shines all by herself. Take a look.

This exhibition seeks to pay tribute to one of the African Diaspora’s most influential living ancestors as well as critique the complexity of his persona. Life After Death: A Multi-Media Analysis of the Persona that Was/Is Fela Anikulapo Kuti is a visual homage to a musical genius and perhaps one of contemporary history’s most powerful protest artists.

DEAD PRESIDENT: Headmistresses of State

One For All. Anikulapo sang and danced in the face of his persecuters. He was willing to sacrifice his life for the livelihood of his wives and his community. In return 'Head Mistresses' is a literal depiction of All For One. Fela Kuti was a king among queens. We see here how love and loyalty can transcend lifetimes.

Money to Burn is a performance artwork that was enacted on Wall Street. On Tuesday June 22, 2010, starting with $250, i burned money—singles, fives, tens and twenties, one bill at a time, while encouraging traders and others on The Street to join me with their own money.

Talk about money is everywhere from headlines to barbershops from music videos to bedrooms. It’s an obsession. It is a world where some have money to burn and most others are burned by those very fires. Traders on Wall Street have six and seven figure incomes while half the planet tries to survive on less than $2/day. “Dow falls 1,000 points then Rebounds, Shaking Markets” “Blacks in Memphis Lose Decades of Economic Gains...”

We're back with Vevica. These pictures were actually taken too long ago for me to remember all the details of the shoot. I do remember though that Vevica was a fun, goofy spirit to work with. She's a very talented and capable model and would I love to work with her again.

She's a terrible actress though.
